Monroe Dance Academy’s (MDA) mission is to provide professional caliber training for all dance levels in a positive environment that focuses on hard work, discipline, responsibility, respect and teamwork.
Monroe Dance Company (MDC) supports MDA’s mission and strives to develop well-rounded dancers. To reach this goal, members study ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, contemporary and tap in order to be versatile in various dance disciplines. Dancers also participate in master classes taught by dance professionals and experience live dance performances to enhance and deepen their understanding of the art form. Another goal is to provide performance opportunities for the group that include supporting charities and community venues.
To that end, MDC performs and fundraises for various charities such as the Monroe/Trumbull Relay for Life, Dancer’s Responding to AIDS and Connecticut Ballet’s Danbury Dance Initiative.
In addition, the group participates in dance conventions such as Excel in Motion, NUVO, NYCDA and competes in a dance competition to challenge and motivate them as dancers.
Technique: Members take weekly company class which entails Pilates, Active Isolated stretching, and dance technique with an emphasis on alignment, strength, and control. These classes give the members an opportunity to take a more in depth look at the form of dance.
Giving back to the community is a main emphasis of the Company. Members learn about dance as a creative discipline while sharing their passion through community related offerings. The company performs in convalescent homes, senior citizen centers, dance festivals, regional charities and benefits in Connecticut as well as the surrounding area.
